She is an experienced Immigration Officer having worked with the Directorate of Immigration Services, Kenya for over 33 years, rising to the rank of Director. Her work experience includes about 10 years in diplomatic service in India and The Netherlands respectively (i.e., about 5 years in each country). She is a biological mother of two – Meredith and Kettie and a foster mum / mentor to many.
The dream to create The Meredith Sambu Foundation came about in the year 2018. On 13th May, 2018, a youthful 25 year old new graduate of Bsc Engineering and Computer Science from the prestigious University of British Columbia, Meredith Sambu, went out camping with his friends in Squamish, Vancouver – BC, Canada. What started as a day of fun with ten other friends to welcome the summer season, ended drastically when it was reported that at about mid night, Meredith (also known as “MD”) slipped and fell into the Ashlu Stream that joins the dreadful Squamish River. Sadly, MD has not been found to date and the search continues.
Despite the pain and mental torture Pamela and Kettie are going through, they continue to have hope that one day the family will have a happy re-union with MD.
It is with this in mind that they decided to keep MD’s hope alive by forming a charitable Foundation to keep his hopes and aspirations alive. Meredith had big plans from the moment he was elected as Chair of the Student Council at the International School in The Hague, The Netherlands, where he went to High school. He was a very loving and talented young man who excelled in different sports and was an active member of the Model United Nations. His dream was to uplift the less privileged children, especially, in the villages in Western Kenya and help make the world a better place.
After his graduation, MD started planning to raise funds to build a Computer lab and training Center in Ebusakami, Luanda County. He loved his mother’s birth place and had a special relationship with his late maternal grandfather who was also an Engineer by profession.
It is our hope that the Meredith Sambu Foundation will fulfill MD’s dreams and that the Foundation will not only help to uplift the standards of education in Vihiga County but will create a positive impact on the world at large. Please help us to keep MD’s light shinning!
