MSaF’s Programmes and Initiatives
MSaF has adopted Ebusakami Mixed Primary and Ebusakami Girl’s Secondary Schools which are located along the Busia – Kisumu road in Ikokwa village, Enyaita sub-location, Ekwanda division, Ebusakami location, Luanda sub-county in Vihiga County.
Following the Government’s agenda on Free Primary Education and compulsory enrolment of children, the two schools have experienced a high enrollment thus overstretching their resources. As a result, there is a dire need of infrastructure development and material support from the government and well wishers.
Most children in the two schools come from humble backgrounds where they live with their grand-parents because their biological parents are either miles away in the cities searching for casual jobs while others are from single parent homes or orphans. They lack basic needs such as school uniforms, shoes, socks, food among others.
It is important to note that there are very many children with untapped talents in sports and the arts due to lack of facilities to promote these talents. Many of these students also suffer from malnutrition.
Ebusakami Mixed Primary School comprising of 1200 learners is stretched as it currently holds about 60 children per class while some are forced by circumstances to sit on the floor. The school tries to provide two basic meals a day to learners in Grade 7 and 8 to encourage them to come to school early and leave late so that they can study. However, the government supplies are inadequate and often times, the school is forced to seek for food donations from community members and well wishers.
Ebusakami Girl’s Secondary School’s sharp population increase from 400 to 850 students has put a huge strain on the available structures due to depletion of government funds allocated to construct additional classrooms and dormitories. The school administration has been forced to convert some classrooms into dormitories and subsequently placing more children in one classroom due to the limited space available.
